    WASSAIL!!!!

    7pm

Rich's Cider Farm, Watchfield, Highbridge, Somerset. TA9 4RD

Tickets £7.50 from Rich's cyber cider shop

It's January, it's cold & dark, which means it's wassailing time!   We're back at Rich's Cider farm for the 4th year in a row and we can't wait!  Blow away the post festive season blues by standing in a field, drinking cider and shooting trees with shotguns while fair maidens hang toast from branches and wizened old farmers pour cider on the roots*.  Once the spirits have been appeased/frightened away, it's back to the lovely warm barn for more cider and a proper Skimmity knees-up aided by the unique sounds of the Bob Darch mobile discotheque.

Or, if that doesn't sound like the best fun you can have on a dark January night, you can stay at home and watch 'Britain's got celebrity naked bakers dancing in the jungle' or whatever shite passes for TV these days.

Full details of the evening can be found here.

    Tickets can be bought here.

    * If you've not been wassailing before, we're not making this up - this is what actually happens.

    Chaplin's Cellar Bar, Bournemouth

    9pm

Chaplin's Cellar Bar, 529 Christchurch Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth, HAMPSHIRE. BH1 4AG

Free entry before 10pm, £3 after.

We just can't stay away from this place....Even though it's in Bournemouth (which is in HAMPSHIRE!!), for some reason it's like an oasis which attracts only non-tossers. It helps that the bar looks like a 1920's Absinthe den and it serves a decent range of local ales and ciders and has the best beer garden on the country (and possibly the northern hemisphere).

Either way, every night is party night in the Cellar Bar so get down there early and get yer freak on.

    Melplash Cider Festival

    Doors 6pm

Melplash Village Hall, Melplash, Dorset DT6 3UD

    Admission by ticket only.

Tickets are £6 and are available from:
    The Pursuit of Hoppiness, Bridport
    The Corner Garage, Melplash
    Bridport Tourist Information Centre

If you've been following the Skimmity Hitchers for the last couple of years, you'll know that we were particularly fond of the cider world's best kept secret that was the Powerstock Cider Festival. You'll also know how devastated we were when the organisers announced that they had drained their final barrell and called time on the festival.  Then, when all seemed dark and pointless, a true Dorset hero stepped up, announced that the festival would be revived in Melplash and made everything right with the world.

Over 20 local cider producers will exhibit their best wares, with awards given for the best dry, medium and sweet, before throwing open the doors to you lot so you can try the best cider that the west has to offer.

Doors will open to the public at 6pm and we will be on at some point afterwards - it all depends how much cider is flowin'.

Admission is strictly by ticket only - no entry on the door.  Cider tokens will be sold at the event at £1.50 for 1/2 pint and hot food will be available from stalls at the event.  Make sure you bring enough cash for cider, food and taxis as there's no cash facilities in the village.

    Chalk and Cheese Cider Festival

    12pm-12am

    CANCELLED!!

Sorry everyone, the Chalk and Cheese cider festival has been postponed due to unforseen circumstances

Once the event has been rescheduled, we'll let you know.

Back for a second year, the Chalk and Cheese cider festival is proper job! It's in a skittle alley, there will be bales of hay and there will be more quality cider than you can shake a badger at.  The pub describe the day as '...casual drinking of the large selection of ciders in the afternoon at the straw bar to full on party from 9pm with popular band The Skimmity Hitchers'.  Hmmm- When we played here last year we don't remember too much in the way of casual drinking, it was more of a 'bloody minded race to oblivion' type drinking - but that might just have been us....

Regardless of your preferred drinking style, the staff at the pubwill go to the ends of the earth to make sure everyone had a great time (especially us...) so you're guaranteed a great night.

The Gods do exist!!

We played here last September and had such an amazing time that we left a bunch of our gear behind so we would have to come back and get it.

Tickets from £20 adv from HERE.

No, it's not an evening out with a bunch of chemically confident city boys, it's a cheeky little one-dayer in a field in East Coker!  We once played a gig in a pub in West Coker when one of the locals put Tatty Smart in a headlock for an entire song, but that's not important right now.

What is important is that you get yourself a ticket to this right now, while they're still 20 quid and save yourself the price of a pint of scrump and a lemonade for your designated driver.

We'll be on the main stage sometime in the afternoon, why not have a gander at the full line up and see if there's anything else that you fancy?

Ah, Boomtown. Good old, bad old Boomtown. Ten years on and you've matured from a slightly frazzled looking ket-head into a an older and slightly slower frazzled ket-head with a smidge more self-control.  Truly one of the most exciting and immersive festivals on the good planet earth, Boomtown is never the same twice and this year is no different,  with four new districts to explore and get off your head in.

This year we wave bye-bye to the Rusty Spurs (sad face) and head over to the Oldtown Square stage. Here's what the Boomtown Ministry of Propaganda have to say about our new home:

A maze of meandering streets harbouring a myriad of mysteries...Envelope yourself in a global knees up of folk punk and Balkan roots, street theatre, circus and a whole new dimension of immersive experiences from the Invisible Circus!

In addition to all things steamy, there'll be vintage vehicles, farm machinery, food stalls, cider stalls, actual falcons and something called 'ferret world', which has got Tatty 'Ratboy' Smart all excited and twitchy.

The fourth annual Dorchester Cider Festival returns to Borough Gardens on Saturday 18th August at 15:00. This was a rollocking, cider swiggin' packed out evening last year, so it should be even bigger and better this year, what with all the sun and general good vibes we've been having.

Dorch Cider Fest is a FREE family friendly celebration with 80 (yes - 80!) of the regions finest cider producers, special guests, great food and live music throughout the day and all profits from this event are distributed to local good causes by the Dorchester Round Table.

There's no tickest, no booking, just turn up, tune in and have  a good time!

We'll be hitting the bandstand around 9pm, by which time you should all be half rat-arsed and grinning like morons....

    Bridport Torchlight Procession

    9pm

West Bay. On the beach. Next to the bloody massive fire

Look! Here they come.....a train of locals in single file, holding aloft flaming torches, slowly making their way to the edge of the sea and the great pyre of sticks perched on the cliff edge. One by one, they touch their torches to the pyre until a great, purifying conflagration lights up the evening sky and appeases the gods of the apple trees.

No, it's not the 'Wicker Man', it's the Bridport Carnival torchlight procession to West Bay, ending up in a gurt massive party around a ginormous bonfire. Fireworks, cider and good times all included.

We'll be onstage about 9pm, with a short break at some point so that our faces don't melt in the heat from the fire - like that Nazi bloke in 'Raiders of the lost Ark'

    The Great Dorset Steam Fair

    Loads, innum

    Tarrant Hinton, Dorset DT11 8HX

    Tickets: Various prices from here.

The Great Dorset steam fair? Two things must ye know about the Great Dorset steam fair! First, it is in Dorset and second, it is Great!

Here we go again! Stoke up yer boiler, pull the whistle and get ready for another long weekend of all things old and steamy (and we're not just talking about Rat Black here...) except that as it's the 50th anniversary, it's going to be even bigger!! That means more of everything - more steam calliopes, more unrecognisable rusty things in the auto jumble, more cider and a world-record breaking 500 steam engines.

We'll be hanging out at all the usual music venues over the weekend (or up by the shepherd huts when we has a break..) alongside our top mates, Black Water County. We don't all expect to survive the weekend....

Our show times for the weekend are:

Thursday 22nd August: Michael Oliver Stage, 4:15 and 9:15pm

Friday 23rd August: 'Old Rosie' Outdoor stage, 7:30pm

    Saturday 24th August: The Black Bull, 7pm & 9:30pm

    Ross Cider Festival

    Ross-on -Wye Cider & Perry Co. Peterstow, Ross-On -Wye.  HR9 6QG

Tickets from £21 plus camping, available from the Ross-on-Wye cider shop.

For generations, cider drinkers have argued over whether Hereford or Somerset is best - on this weekend, the answer is most definitely Hereford.  If you like cider but haven't visited the Ross-on-Wye Cider & Perry company before, then you have made some very poor life decisions as they produce a mind boggingly massive range of single variety ciders and the best perry on the planet. No word of a lie.

Their annual Cider & Perry festival invites you to three days of music, local food and cider and perry drinking in the surrounds of one of the most beautiful orchards you'll ever see (you can camp in the orchards - how amazing is that?).

The Skimmity boys will be on stage sometime on Saturday evening, but you can guarantee that we'll be lurking among the barrels way before then...

This truly is a beautiful event that celebrates the very best cider & perry that Hereford has to offer - you'll kick yourself if you miss it....

    Last of the Summer Cider

    3pm to late

Myncen Farm, 83, Minchington, Blandford Forum, Dorset DT11, 8DH

Tickets: Various prices from £20, from the Fuelled By Cider Cyber Cider Shoppe

They say that the customer is always right.... can't say that we agree otherwise why is Magners cider so bleddy popular?  But, when the punters at last year's Last of the Summer Cider demanded that Bagder and Bill of Cranborne Chase Cider fame, stop being a pair of lazy buggers and stop all this 'every other year' bollocks, they the realised that in this particular case, the customer was indeed correct and so, hot on the heels of LOTSC 2017 comes LOTSC 2018!

In addition to the plentiful,  excellent and award winning Cranbourne Chase cider, and locally sourced food, this years festival adds on the Friday night featuring the freakishly talented and bezzie drinking buddies Black Water County ,plus SN Dubstation, just in case you need a bit of a run-up to the weekend.

We'll be slamming down the ciders on Saturday night with our long-time festival buddies Quinns Quinney Skiffle, The Jimmy Hillbillies and The Boot Hill All Stars, plus more bands TBC.

The usual rules apply for a party in a field in Dorset: No dogs, no glass, bring plenty of hard cash* and take all your rubbish home with you.  This is the last festy of the season, so let's make sure we all have a proper knees up!

*and we mean LOADS of cash - the bar is cash only and the nearest cashpoint is 10 miles away!

New Forest Cider steam pressing weekend

    11am - 4:30pm

New Forest Cider, Burley, Hampshire BH24 4ED

Entry: £5 on the gate. Concessions for children and OAPs

For all of the slagging that we give Hampshire, even we can't deny that the New Forest is a bit special, and New Forest Cider is a proper job cider farm, right up there with the best that Somerset, Hereford and even Dorset have to offer.

The New Forest Cider steam pressing weekend is a two day celebration of cidermaking how it used to be - with bloody gurt big steam enginesand a load of blokes in smocks with two handled cups full of cider and smiles on their faces.

We're very, very proud to have been asked back for the 5th year running to entertain you, the great unwashed cider drinking public, with our drunken, cider -related musical ramblings.  We'll be doing three sets throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 12pm and finishing about 4pm. In between times we'll be squishing apples, whittling bits of wood and consuming our own weight in New Forest Cider's dangerously drinkable Snakecatcher Scrumpy.

This is a great weekend for anyone interested in making or drinking proper cider  - don't miss it!

More information from the New Forest Cider website.
