Skimmity Hitchers New album launch party!

    12:30-5pm

    Dorset County museum, Dorchester, Dorset

And afterwards at Cafe Jago's, Dorchester, Dorset

Finally, after years of patient waiting, the Skimmity Hitchers have recorded a new album. And well worth the wait we reckon, a real Scrumpy & Western classic!

We're very excited to announce that the official launch will be in Dorchester on Sunday June 4th.

In keeping with our reputation for sophisticated company and salubrious venues, we are holding a Skimmity Soiree in the Dorset County Museum, on High West Street between 12.45 and 2.15pm, followed by a live gig across the road at Cafe Jagos from 3.30pm onwards.

Attendees of the Skimmity Soiree will be served scrumpagne and six finger food in the museum tea room followed by the first public play out of the new album in the magnificent and historic Victorian Hall, in which you are welcome to wander and peruse the displays and artefacts.

Attendees of the Cafe Jagos gig will drink too much, jump around lots and generally act like excitable bumpkins.

Copies of the new CD will be available to buy at both events and doing so will enrich your life immensely.

Attendance at the Soiree will be strictly limited to 90 people so early arrival is strongly advised. If these numbers are exceeded we will operate a one-in / one-out policy and encourage people to give their fellow Hitchers a chance to come and take part, but we cannot guarantee that everyone will be allowed in.

Both events are free of charge and family friendly, with the proviso that there might be some drinking / effing and blinding at Cafe Jagos.

We dearly hope to see you there!

    Feeding Dream fundraiser: Bristol

    7:30-11:45

The Pickle Factory, 13, All Hallow's Road, Bristol BS5 0HH

Tickets: £16.50 (including buffet) from Bristol ticket shop.

Christmas is great, innum? Shame it only comes once a year..... But wait! Through the magic of our good drinkin' mate, Jason Cole, the Skimmity Hitchers and the Feeding Dreams charity, you can have Christmas all over again with the added benefit of it not being friggin' freezing outside*

Jason assures us it will be 'a winter wonderland' so we're expecting reindeer, enchanted castles, rosy cheeked children pulling sleds and throwing snowballs and certainly not a drunk homeless bloke in a Santa suit slumped in a corner surrounded by empty White Lightning bottles and a pool of his own piss (cos that's Drum Cheddar;'s job....)

£15 gets you all the fun of Jesus' birthday in June, plus a buffet and the delightful company of our good selves - all to raise money for the Feeding Dreams charity.

*It may be friggin' freezing outside - just because it's June, it doesn't mean it won't be caning it down....

    Festival OUTCIDER

    Argol, Finistere, Brittany, France

Last year, we were contacted by a bloke called Kevin who runs a festival called Outcider.  Now that isn't particularly unusual except that this particular Kevin is a cool French dude from Brittany who runs a cider festival called Festival OUCIDER which is in France.  Anyway, French Kevin hitchhiked his way to Somerset to come to our Outcider festival and had sooo much fun that he invited us to his OUTCIDER festival this year. So we're off to that France, innum.

Here's what the organisers have to say, via the magic of Google translate:

The festival cider alive, of the nature, organic, of the English, of the experimental, of the amateur, etc.... Cider as we have ever seen..... especially in large surface...
Two days of delusions products, with a large market cider / cheese
Concerts, debates, animations, of the local cuisine and family of the brothel....
Saturday it is 14 pm-2 PM
    Sunday 11 pm-20 pm

The group phare du out-Cider (English) come give us a good lesson of cider-folk.... the skimmity hitchers do that by scrumpy or by barrel if you ask a question.... Musical as in a pub where we Serves there cider to all goes....

Sounds tres amazing, non? Especially the 'family of the brothel' bit - that's proper west country....

    Various

    Tarrant Hinton, Dorset

Various ticket prices - please see the GDSF website for full details

All aboard for the Steeeeeeeaaam Faaaaaair!

We are not joking when we say that we've been looking forward to this all year.  After getting caught out by last year's last minute date change and only being able to play our favourite annual event on the Monday afternoon, 2017 will see us on various stages from Friday though to Monday (and twice on Saturday....) so there is no hiding place you Steam Faeries!

For maximum Skimmity action, you needs to be at:

Friday: Outdoor stage, 9-10pm (just before the Wurzels)

    Saturday: The Black Bull, 10-11pm & 11:30pm- 12:30am

    Sunday: Real Ale Marquee,  11:15pm - 12:30am

    Monday: Outdoor stage,  2:30-4:30pm

If you haven't been to the Great Dorset Steam Fair you should stoke up yer boiler and come along to experience what some call 'Glastonbury for steam engines' but what we think is the biggest, craziest most fucked up village fair on the planet. There will be live music, funfair, steam engines, monster trucks, the famous auto-jumble, bigger steam engines, horse ploughing, shepherd huts, WW1 trenches,  Steam Calliopes, cider, beer, more stalls and exhibits that you can shake a Woodsman's lopper at and finally, some truly gert massive steam engines.

    Ross-on Wye Cider festival

Ross on Wye Cider & Perry Co, The Yew Tree Inn, Peterstow. Herefordshire

    Tickets £20-£40, available here

For some people, Somerset and the west country are all you need to know when it comes to proper cider. For others, it always has and always will be Herefordshire. For us, as long as it's made from proper presses apple juice and gets yer pissed, we don't mind where it comes from... but if you want to learn the difference between west country scrump and Hereford cider, then this is the place you need to be. Mike at Ross-on -Wye Cider is a legend, a guru - if there's something that he doesn't know about different varieties of cider apples and how to make cider from them, then it isn't worth knowing.  Rest assured that we'll be there on the Saturday to lower the tone and generally cause havoc, but otherwise, this is a must-attend event for the serious cider drinker.
